Anglican Church hosts mothers’ conference

THE Anglican Diocese of the Province of Manicaland

The Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Province says preparations for its annual Mothers’ Union conference scheduled for mid-August are gaining momentum and thousands are expected to attend the event.

The Anglican’s Mothers Union is considered the backbone of the church and in March this year successfully hosted St Mary’s Day where women from across the country gathered in St Augustine in the province.

Saint Mary’s Day is commemorated annually on March 25 by the Mothers’ Union to celebrate the message that was brought to Mary by the Angel Gabriel that she was to give birth to Jesus.

In an interview yesterday, the Diocese’s Anglican Secretary, Edmond Samutereko, said Mothers’ Union 2022 would be held at St Mathias Tsonzo in Watsomba.

“Women from various corners of the province will come together for evangelism and teachings, including on marriage,” Samutereko said.

Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Bishop Eric Ruwona’s wife, Eunice, is the Union President while Reverend Walter Majoni is the Union Chaplain.

The six archdeacons of the church are ready to honor the event.

Reverend Majoni told this publication that Mothers Union was a day of evangelism and information sharing.

“Mothers Union will also be remembered as the day when women shared ideas on various issues including marriage,” he said.

At previous events, older women were also tested for cervical cancer during the event.
