(WETM) – Here are some of the events taking place this weekend in the Twin Tiers and surrounding areas:

Several free health exams take place in Elmira

On Saturday 20 November there will be two free medical examinations in Elmira.

Guthrie, in conjunction with Faith Temple Community Church, located at 765 Harper Street in Elmira, NY, will be hosting a free medical screening event on Saturday, November 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will offer the following health screenings and free resources:

  • Arterial pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Nutrition
  • Pharmacy chat
  • Mindfulness, meditation and yoga

This initiative is the result of focused efforts to partner with local organizations to help improve the health of residents of the communities served by Guthrie.

Those in attendance are kindly requested to use the entrance on Standish Street.

The second free medical screening will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 1119 Lake Street in Elmira from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

St. Paul’s Anglican Church spearheads the Healthy Opportunities for People Everywhere (HOPE) and Facilitating Aid In Troubled Hearts (FAITH) initiative.

By coordinating with other faith-based organizations and community partners, the HOPE & FAITH initiative will seek to compassionately support the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of others through wellness screenings, including free blood pressure tests. and blood sugar.

Warm Outerwear Contest

AME Zion Frederick Douglas Memorial Church will be holding a warm outerwear contest on Saturday, November 20.

The event is free for anyone needing winter clothing and is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Adult and children’s outfits will be available, items include coats, hats and gloves.

Turkey Gifts at Bmillz in Elmira Heights

On Saturday, the Bmillz store located at 312 E 14th Street in Elmira Heights will provide Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need.

They have 150 turkeys that they will give, starting at 10 a.m. and all day until there are no more. The gifts are based on the principle of first come, first served.

Dollhouse and miniature exhibit at the National Soaring Museum

Saturday marks the opening day of the 5th Annual Dollhouse and Miniature Exhibition at the National Soaring Museum in Elmira.

The miniaturists of the region have gathered their many dollhouses and chamber boxes at the museum to present a must-see exhibit that will appeal to the whole family, especially during the holidays.

Southern rock band Do South returns to Landon’s Pub and Pizza in Watkins Glen

Do South is back to play all your favorite southern rock songs from artists like Georgia Satellites, The Black Crowes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and more.

The show is free to everyone and starts at 9 p.m. on Saturday. The pub is located at 114 W 4th St. in Watkins Glen.
