New Zealand churches call for support for Tonga eruption recovery

[Anglican Taonga (Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia)] Anglican Church leaders from Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia have joined Methodist, Presbyterian and Baptist churches and the Religious Society of Friends in calling for financial support as Tonga responds to the impact of the January 14 volcanic eruption and tsunami.

Church leaders based in Aotearoa, New Zealand have launched a joint appeal asking church members to offer prayers and send financial support to Tonga through Christian World Service and partner agencies churches working in Tonga.

The church leaders’ statement opens with an exhortation to courage from Joshua 1:9: “…be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or frightened, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
