The Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM), Mgr. Leonard Dawea, calls on all ACOM members in Honiara and across the country to refrain from participating in illegal activities, including the wanton destruction of property and looting of businesses.
The Archbishop is very concerned about the destruction of private and public property as witnessed on Wednesday and pleads with ACoM members, especially our young people, to respect each other and stay at home in the face of this situation very volatile.
He also calls on all Church and community leaders in and around Honiara to discourage these activities for your young people.
Getting involved in violence can only hurt us, as we are currently experiencing with the sudden lockdown of Honiara, which has now resulted in many difficulties in surviving.
The Archbishop recognizes that people can be frustrated with what is happening in our country regarding our political leadership, but there are more peaceful ways to resolve these issues than resorting to violence.
At the same time, the Archbishop calls on the political leaders of this country to listen to the concerns of our people and to respond to them appropriately.
